Changes in sea-surface height determine general flow characteristics called geostrophic flow, the balance between the Coriolis force and the horizontal pressure gradient. Using sea surface height anomaly field and the Rio05, the Combined Mean Dynamic Topography (CMDT) produced by CLS Space Oceanography Division, geostrophic flow maps are produced on a daily basis.
